Volunteer with Us: Inventory Trees of Downtown Phoenix!

Have you ever noticed how many empty tree wells there are in downtown Phoenix? Jim McPherson started a very popular public Facebook album called "A Tree Used to Grow in Downtown Phoenix", which documented photos of various empty tree wells around downtown. Since these photos have been taken, we want to document if and where there has been any change to the tree wells. That is where we need volunteers to step in!!

We need a handful of volunteers who can go out into the various areas of downtown Phoenix, and take clear photos of the tree well areas, documenting how they look as of now. We are hoping to get some very dramatic before and after shots! Work at your own pace, anytime between December 4th- 8th!

How it works:

1. Downtown has been separated into 7 major areas, all with specific tree well points for volunteers to inspect within each area. 1-3 volunteers will tackle each area.
2. We have created a detailed Google map for volunteers to use to get from point to point. The map separates each major area, and highlights each tree well point within each area. To view the map, click HERE.
3. Below are the 7 areas of downtown listed; sign up for whatever area you would like to be assigned to.
4. Once you have signed up for an area, you will have a week to work on taking pictures, from December 4th to 8th. 
5. You will need: your smart phone (remember to charge it ahead of time!), and the Google map opened on your phone for navigation. 
6. At each point marked on the map, take a very clear, quality photo of the tree well area.
7. Send your photos to volunteer@treesmatter.org, and PLEASE label in the subject line "Your last name, Area name/number, and point number as indicated on the map. 

Lastly, we would love to have a get-together at the end to celebrate everyone's hard work. More details to come soon!!
