(UPDATE: there's a forecast of rain so dress accordingly!)

The Arizona Rare Fruit Growers maintain a subtropical demonstration garden at the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension on Broadway Road in Phoenix. Papaya, mango, avocado, black sapote, passion fruit, bamboo, loquat, sugar cane, longan, guava, and even banana trees can be seen in this experimental orchard where the Rare Fruit Growers learn which trees can and which can't work in a desert climate so different than their native one.

Also at this location, the Arizona Herb Association (http://www.azherb.org/ ) maintains their garden which is now bursting with herbs and some flowers and veggies, too! The sweet peas are blooming and they smell divine.

First join Patrick Hallman in a guided tour of the garden and get a sneak peek of what they'll be selling at their March 22nd spring plant sale.

Then join Master Gardener and President of the Arizona Herb Association, Pam Perry. March 1 is AHA's monthly Weed and Feed, so not only will you see what's growing, you can see AHA in action and learn how to get involved. You can also pick up some info on Maricopa County Extension Office resources.

This event is FREE.

Remember: Dress for the weather. Wear a hat, comfortable walking shoes and lots of sunscreen. Bring water.
