vegetable garden design for the desert III  instructor: vynnie mcdaniels

Learn how to design a bountiful vegetable garden specifically for a low desert climate. This multi-part series will guide you through the creation process from site selection to troubleshooting common problems. If you need a more in-depth look at gardening than one class can give you, this is the series for you.

Part 3 of the Vegetable Garden Series will help you answer the question, “What and when to plant in Phoenix?” You will learn about the types of edible plants that do best in our climate. Topics include: Phoenix area planting calendar, annuals vs perennials, companion planting techniques and encouraging genetic diversity. This class will include a list of local gardening resources. After this class, you will have what you need to make the next trip to your local garden store more fruitful.

1 Adult $20prepaid/ $28 at the door

Payments at the door may be made via cash or check.

about the instructor:
Vynnie McDaniels has been gardening in the Phoenix area for over 15 years, teaching organic gardening and wholistic living. Some of his handy work has graced the pages of Phoenix Home & Garden, Popular Mechanics, and Dwell magazines. He’s been on various local television programs, and in spring 2008 he was featured on Sundance Channel’s ‘Big Ideas for a Small Planet’. Applying permaculture concepts and xeriscape principles, Vynnie enjoys creating edible naturescapes that attract a plethora of wildlife (and a few humans too). He teaches workshops throughout the year with a host of local business, affiliations, and communities.
